Salt Water Therapy

The last time we went to the beach was the Saturday after the school year ended.  It has been way too long.  Every time we tried to go back, a storm was brewing in Corpus or someone came down sick or we needed to save money or Alan and I were just too tired.  Anna has been saying for several months, "We need to go to the beach!"  Yesterday, she came in to Alan and me and said, "I want to go to the beach tomorrow!"  Alan had made plans to attend a baseball game and finish yard work so he said for the two of us to take off and go.  Knowing what kinds of stress I am facing the next several weeks, I decided that sand and salt water would do us both some good.

Anna was so excited this morning, she was packing up everything we needed.  One of my favorite movies and TV show is Gidget.  I bought the DVD of the TV series with Sally Field and Anna has been watching those episodes with me.  Watching Gidget, Anna knew apparently how to pack for the day.  Anna is so fun to watch.

It takes about an hour and half to get to the beach.  We went to Mustang Island which is a state park and it was not too crowded.  Definitely worth paying five dollars to be on a family friendly beach.  We set up our area and Anna ran to put her feet in the water while I enjoyed lying on the comforter facing the water.  We both wrote in the sand, played in the water, had a picnic supper and took a long walk on the beach collecting sea shells that had just washed up.

Hopefully next time Alan and Andrew can go,  I missed them being there today but I did enjoy the fun girl time with my daughter.

Spring Break 2015

Spring Break has come and passed.  Saturday, Anna and I worked with a fellow coach's wife at Kenedy Ladies Market for our new company It Works!  It was fun having Anna with me and she is my secret weapon.  Who could pass up a cute little girl handing out coupons and samples.

Sunday evening our good friends Ron and Brenda Johns came to stay the night and part of Monday with us.  It was so great to have them over and catch up on everything.  The last time they were at our house in Karnes City was when they helped us move in.  They at least got to see it all put together and got to see the cows again and experienced the unusual rain we had for three days straight.

Wednesday, Alan's parents came down to see us and they left this morning.  Yesterday, we took them into San Antonio to eat on the River walk, tour the Alamo, went to Ripley's Believe it or Not, and had some frozen yogurt at the mall.

Monday, we start head on with STAAR, One Act Play, concerts, softball games, etc.  Just Breathe! That is all I can remind myself to do.

No! I did not let them wish to be "BIG!"

I had Andrew take these pictures of the cows behind our house today.  They were resting which is unusual. They are usually eating or walking around.

Kenedy Choirs go to the Symphony

This past Tuesday, I was privileged to take both my High School Choir and Middle School Choir to the Tobin Center in downtown San Antonio to hear the San Antonio Symphony perform Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev.  An actor also came out and portrayed the narrator, Romeo, Juliet, the Friar and a few other characters.  He made it quite funny, entertaining and relevant to the present.  We had great seats in the Orchestra Floor Section and we were surrounded by many elementary students.  I believe we were the only secondary group in the auditorium.   I reserved these free tickets in September when my Middle School Principal gave me the Okay to take them.

Kenedy Students really had a great time and enjoyed the concert.  Afterwards, we went to the River Center Mall to have lunch and to give our students a chance to hang out with each other and shop.  I had originally planned to take them across the street to tour the Alamo, but  when we drove by, the lines outside the Alamo were the longest I have ever seen, so we stayed at the mall.

When going on any field trip, I make sure students are aware of the etiquette, what is expected of them, and the importance of staying with your group.  I am proud of our students; they represented Kenedy with class.  While others in the audience did not seem to know how to act in a concert nor when it is appropriate to clap, Kenedy Choir did not disappoint.  When you expect the best of students, that is what you will get.  Some of these students have never experienced a symphonic concert but now they have.

When I get down and feel like my choir program is growing too slow,  I think about these field trips, the motivational speeches of not giving up, the "Hi Mrs. Weaver!" across the room or hallways, the fun games we play in choir when half the group is gone because of illnesses and I realize that it may not be a group ready for contest, but their lives are being invested in.

After the concert was over and waiting for our School to be dismissed.
